Additional Cast

Who arrived late?

Arthur English
Mr Beverley Harmon

Mr Harmon took the place of Mr Mash in the packing department in series 4. He was very much like his predecessor in that he was always boasting about his overtime pay and he never got on very well with Captain Peacock. However, despite his attitude, he did sometimes decide to co-operate with the staff to help them in when they got into tight situations.

James Hayter
Mr Percival Tebbs

Mr Tebbs was the first of a few characters that were brought in to take over the role of senior salesman in Menswear after Mr Grainger left. In many people's opinions he was a good character but didn't quite cut it when it came to replacing Arthur Brough's character in the department. James Hayter was only part of the cast for one series before he left.

Alfie Bass
Mr Harry Goldberg

Harry Goldberg replaced Mr Tebbs when he retied after just 6 episodes. Mr Goldberg had mixed relationships with the staff on the floor, his relationship with Captain Peacock was one of the key elements in his storyline when he first joined Grace Brothers.  After his own shop had burned down in mysterious circumstances he applied for the post of junior, when he came in for his interview and met Captain Peacock it brought back some old memories of someone called Corporal Peacock who he had been close friends with during the war. When he said he recognised the Captain, said man denied everything Mr Goldberg said. When put to the vote of whether Mr Goldberg should be hired, Captain Peacock was the only one who thought he was unsuitable.

Mike Berry
Mr Bert Spooner

Mr Spooner replaced Mr Lucas junior sales assistant on the men's counter towards the latter end of the show and would stay until the end. He had a small amount of experience in other departments in the store but despite his experience, his selling skills weren't that much better than those of the man he replaced. He seemed to get on well enough with Mr Humphries and Miss Brahms, mostly. However, much like Mr Lucas before him, he overly enjoyed riling up Mrs Slocomb. To Captain Peacock, it seemed he was just an annoyance. He had a lot of talent when it came to music though and it is safe to assume that when he left Grace Brother, he would have pursued a career in singing.

Kenneth Waller
Old Mr Henry Grace

Towards the end of the series Young Mr Grace retired so that he could write a book on birds. He left the store in the hands of his older brother. Throughout the series, Old Mr Grace had been mentioned but he had never been seen until he came and took over the store. He was not in the series for long, but during the time that he was you could see that he and his brother had one main thing in common: a thing for younger women. Much like his brother, Old Mr Grace had an army of young secretaries and nurses to help look after him.
